What Is the Best Time of Year to Visit Nepal?

Nepal is a year-round destination, but the experience changes dramatically with the seasons. Here's what to expect throughout the year.

Spring (March–May)

Spring is one of the best times to visit. The weather is warm, rhododendrons are in full bloom across the hillsides, and mountain visibility is excellent. This is peak trekking and helicopter tour season, so book well in advance.

Summer/Monsoon (June–August)

The monsoon brings rain to Kathmandu and the lower elevations, but the rain-shadow regions like Mustang and Upper Dolpo remain dry. Helicopter tours still operate, but morning departures are essential to beat afternoon clouds. Prices are lower and crowds are thinner.

Autumn (September–November)

The post-monsoon season offers crystal-clear skies, comfortable temperatures, and the best mountain views of the year. This is the most popular season for tourism in Nepal. October is particularly spectacular for helicopter flights.

Winter (December–February)

Winter brings cold temperatures, especially at higher elevations, but the skies are often clear and the mountains are stunning with fresh snow. Helicopter tours still run daily. Pack warm clothing and enjoy the quieter trails and lower prices.
