Taking a helicopter tour in Nepal is an exhilarating experience. Whether you're flying to Everest Base Camp, around the Annapurna range, or to remote mountain lodges, a little preparation goes a long way.
Dress in layers. The temperature at takeoff in Kathmandu may be warm, but it drops significantly at higher altitudes. A light jacket, comfortable pants, and sturdy shoes are recommended. Don't forget sunglasses—the glare off snow-covered peaks is intense.
Most helicopter tours reach altitudes above 5,000 m. While the flight is brief (typically 3–5 hours), altitude can affect some people. Stay hydrated, avoid alcohol the night before, and inform your pilot if you feel unwell.
Your passport (required for permit checks), a camera with extra batteries, and a sense of adventure. Binoculars are a nice bonus. Luggage is usually limited to 5–10 kg per person on shared flights.
October to November and March to May offer the clearest skies and best mountain views. Morning flights (5–6 AM departures) provide the most stable weather conditions.
